A colonial girl wore a gown (dress) that laced up the back and came down to her ankles. The first thing she put on was a "shift" that served as a blouse and slip during the day and a nightgown too. She would wear her gown over her shift. Other than stockings (long socks) she had no underwear. When working, she wore an apron with a bib that she pinned to her gown to keep it up. She also wore a white cap.
